After some hiccups, we finally reached our intended destination… which.. is basically a 2 km long road!

Champs-Élysées is one of the most recognisable avenues in the world. The name is French for the Elysian Fields, the paradise for dead heroes in Greek mythology.

It runs between the Place de la Concorde and the Place Charles de Gaulle, where the Arc de Triomphe is located. It is known for its theatres, cafés, and luxury shops, for the annual Bastille Day military parade, and as the finish of the Tour de France cycle race.
This photograph of the Avenue is taken from top of the Arc de Triomphe, one of the most famous monuments in Paris, standing at the western end of the Champs-Élysées at the center of Place Charles de Gaulle, formerly named Place de l’Étoile — the étoile or “star” of the juncture formed by its twelve radiating avenues.
Arc de Triomphe honours those who fought and died for France in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars, with the names of all French victories and generals inscribed on its inner and outer surfaces. Beneath its vault lies the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier from World War I.

We reached the monument at the end of a long and tiring day… during which we had walked more than 25 km! Climbing the stairs to reach the top was a test of our fitness and we followed it up by eating a HUGE Burger and fries at 5 Guys! . .
